A vintage-style record player opens into a box of objects from the past. Commissioned by Plymouth City Museum, this bespoke sensory unit was designed to prompt thoughts, memories and emotion.
The exterior takes the form of a vintage record player, with a lift-up lid and a carefully detailed front. Inside, the unit displays artefacts that give participants tangible starting points for conversation and recollection.
More Creative designed and made the storage box around this familiar domestic object. The project combines themed fabrication with an object-led interpretation format, giving the museum a distinctive way to present its reminiscence materials.

The memory box uses recognition as the starting point for engagement. The record-player form creates an initial connection, and opening the lid reveals objects that can become prompts for discussion. Bespoke fabrication gives those materials a coherent setting and a place to be kept together, supporting the museum’s object-led reminiscence activity without prescribing the memories participants should share.
