Visitors use the touchscreen lectern to colour the landscape, seeing their selections appear across the scene. The physical relief gives the activity a different character from a conventional flat-screen painting game.
The installation includes a coin-operated mechanism and a camera plinth intended to encourage a photo opportunity. The wall scene, console and supporting components were developed together as a creative visitor activity.
The separate touchscreen and textured wall scene make the relationship between choice and outcome visible across the installation. Visitors select a colour at the console and look towards the landscape to see its effect. Combining a digital interface with a fabricated relief gives the experience a physical presence within the visitor centre, while the scene provides a shared focus for people watching the activity.
